Applied Portfolio Management

Apply for spots in the Spring, 2010 APM class now!

The Applied Portfolio Management program at Saint Louis University provides students in the John Cook School of Business with an opportunity to actively manage a portion of the University's endowment fund. Established in Fall of 2002, with an initial investment of $500,000, the program seeks to blend academic rigor with real-world experience in portfolio management.

The program follows the thought process of a top-down investor. A discussion of the economy and its impact on the stock market is followed by industry analysis. Finally, company-level decisions are based on comparing and contrasting the business, financial and valuation fundamentals of firms within each industry. Students decide on relative industry weightings as well as the market cap and value/growth biases of the portfolio. This program is recommended for students targeting careers in investment banking, portfolio management, financial analysis and corporate finance, as well as anyone interesting in gaining a better understanding of equity valuation.

This web site presents current and historical data on the APM portfolio, the industry and company reports produced by the current APM class, and data and links that are used in the current semester's analyses. A list of current and former APM students may be found here. The syllabus for the course is also available here.
